10 Artists Who Saw Their Passion Projects Come To Life

Passion projects can make or break the person responsible for bringing their artistic vision to life. In most cases, it’s the latter. Just ask Terry Gilliam, the famed British director who failed in his quest to bring the Spanish classic Don Quixote to life. The film was also riddled with problems, from the Spanish Air Force flying over the set to the set being flooded.

But we won’t dwell on the projects that didn’t see the light of day. Instead, we will focus on the films that made it to our screens and chronicle the journey the actors and directors responsible for them went on to get them there.

    Here are 10 such films.

The film that truly put Alejandro G. Iñárritu on the map started as a comedy and would go on to become one of 2014’s most celebrated films, which culminated in it winning the Academy Award for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Score.

Birdman follows a washed-up film star as he attempts an unlikely comeback on Broadway, but the Mexican director’s friends, family and professional confidentes were far from encouraging. Instead, they warned him that such a film would be impossible to shoot, but after years of being stuck in development hell, Nicolás Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris, Jr and Armando Bo came on board to help bring the vision to life. Skyping from Buenos Aires, New York and LA most days, the film was eventually made after much strife and proved that anything is possible if you truly believe in your artistic vision.
